"Morgan Stanley ups earns estimate for S&P 500(1:21 pm ET)
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Morgan Stanley's U.S. equity strategist, Steve Galbraith, raised his earnings estimates for the S&P 500 to $53.50 a share from $52 for 2003, and to $58.50 a share from $55 for 2004. "We expect an inflection point for portfolios, where factors that have worked over the past 20 years, not 20 weeks, will again be rewarded," Galbraith said in a note to clients. Among catalysts for the shift in strategy is the end of the global interest rate easing cycle and the decelerating pace of improvement in gross domestic product and earnings growth.
