The problem with that is determining what exactly constitutes "civil"......its rather a vague standard and quite frankly enforcement of TOU has been anything but uniform.....so while I don't usually agree with Watson I do understand his concern......I do know that GZ himself seems to think he was suspended for the post you mentioned and the PM issue....given the post he was responding to I might have come to the same conclusion....

Bob, this is often the "did-did not.....am-am not....double bounce back on you" board. Many things that cannot be clearly refuted are personalized. There is a core group of posters that lead this mudslinging charge and they are on both sides of the political spectrum. Labels like "liar, traitor, and anti-American" are commonly affixed to posters and posts, and aspersions are cast on the personal lives and characteristics of the posters. With that kind of entrenched internet culture, is there any effective way to police the thread?

I guess that most of us here have learned to accept the thread as it is, although it would be nice to have thoughtful, even passionate, discussions without all the venom. Either spend a couple of weeks and police it intensely to get it stopped or let it run. The in-between course is obviously frustrating and it clearly is not working. Whether the culture is altered or not, the thread does have value with lots of interesting articles posted and a few thoughtful posters with good insights.

I would like to commend you for the difficult job of deciding what is civil behavior. I have been posting on SI since June of 1996. Keep up the good work.
