Wow Thats pretty bad. Are you sure its right? I know BIG believers in Whole Life. Not to say they are right.

Whole Life Insurance has always struck me as little more than a forced savings account, unless of course you die and "beat" the actuary assumptions.

I have a bunch on me bought when I was a kid. Its all on premium offset now with dividends paying the premium. Some original 25k policies were already pushing 75K of payout. I'd probably just cash them in, but with them in place I have peace of mind that the wife and kid will be well kept if I'm not around. I don't know if you can put a price on that.

And of course you can always borrow money against Whole Life Policies. For example, if the Mark-it ever gets rationally valued again, a person might want to 'self convert and manage' the exisiting whole life policy into one of those market return linked policies. Then pay the money back when the Mark-it goes back to excesses. Of course that will never happen in real life cause the Mark-it never falls.

BTW Some of the richest guys I know are either Life Insurance Salesmen or local Golf Pros. (I can't decide which they actually do). But if I need to make a policy adjustment I usually go to the course before their office.
