Rosie...

The interview seemed to go great. It was very smooth. I wanted to keep it very light so as not to bring attention to Mr Hung in Vietnam, in fact I never mention him by name. It is human interest stuff..

I told the interviewer that we were motivated to help by a wonderful person that we met in Vietnam. We did not go looking to start a humanitarian aid project, we are just helping our friend fulfill his vision of what needs to be done. He knows best what the most pressing needs are.

I emphasized:
-The improved health of the villagers and their growing self sufficiency.
-How cooperative the local governments have been...(cough, cough)
-What wonderful friends we are blessed to have, to back us in such a venture, and how the venture has gained momentum.
-How these types of efforts can be done, and maybe easier than people expect, hoping others will be inspired to help, that they really can make a difference.

good fluff....

I had lunch with a fellow that used to work for Care, ran the Starbucks Foundation, and is now an independent foundation consultant. He really liked our direction, and gave me some good ideas. It was very positive, he was blown away at how cheaply we are getting the wells done.

He reinforced my thinking that we almost completely skip looking for grants from foundations. Over 85% of giving comes from individuals and small business. Foundations have less money to give these days, it is long process making yourself look pretty to them.....I couldn't see spending to much time there, now.

We are beginning to talk to small businesses about sponsoring whole projects, and I think I am getting a very positive response. People want to do good, and this gives them something that is very easy for them to do...and they could do one every year!

I am only doing landscape work tomorrow. I actually have a very cool little garden going...pictures at 10...well, maybe tomorrow.
