Who cares who the French trust? The fact is that they unilaterally imploded the diplomatic process that could have led to a negotiated settlement of the Iraq issue. You NEVER say never in a negotiation. Especially when you have veto power. They have mortally wounded the U.N., unless and until Chirac apologizes in a speech at the U.N. in person.
