IMO, you're buying into some serious conspiracy theories...

I have researched Wesley Clark extensively and know folks (from the military and the business world) that know him personally....He is an incredible man of integrity who wants what is best for this nation...There is NO script and he is NOT in bed with Stephens & Co (an investment firm he worked for in the past). Wesley Clark may soon become the only presidential candidate who is NOT a politician...that may be a real asset. I still feel Clark may be the candidate who can really beat the Bush/Cheney machine and their team of dirty tricksters. Read some of the comments from the thousands of folks who have written notes to the General...

Dear General Clark, We've been following you for the last few months and have been very impressed. We also saw your appearance on the Bill Maher show and thought your discussion of the Founding Fathers and their background in the Enlightenment was cogent and thoughtful, qualities that are sadly lacking in the current President. Your acumen, military experience, and obvious leadership abilities are just what this country needs to get it off the disastrous path that this Administration has forced on it. We always vote but have never campaigned for anyone before; but we will campaign for you should you choose to run. Best regards.

Comments:
The last few years of the Bush presidency have made me ashamed to be American, something I never thought I would say. For seven of the almost eight years that I lived abroad, I was never embarassed about my accent, my president, my citizenship, or the conduct of my country, but that all changed in November 2000. I can't bear to think of it continuing until 2008. Unfortunately, none of the current Democratic candidates has inspired even an ounce of interest in me. I had reluctantly concluded that I would simply have to vote for whomever won the primary and pray that enough people had had enough of Bush to depose him. But then I saw your (too) brief appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher", a show I have just recently begun to watch, and I actually felt the stirrings of hope. My husband and I sat with open mouths as we listened to you speak. At the end of the interview, I thought "I might actually want to vote for that man, volunteer for his campaign, donate what I could to help him get elected" (obviously, I knew I needed to know more, and headed for the Internet for some quick research). What I have read about your views, beliefs, experience, and approach to leadership have further encouraged me. I will continue to follow your appearances in the hopes that soon you will be announcing your candidacy for President in 2004. Please run for President. Your country needs you again.

I was able to hear you speak on NPR on Monday, 9/8/03. You spoke of the situation in Iraq with a clarity that I thought would never emerge in these unsettled times, especially with regard to the terrorist free for all that the current administration has created in Iraq. Rebuild Iraq? On the contrary, we have given those who would bring us down a field to play on. I sincerely hope that you will consider running for President so that faith in ourselves, our society and our fundamental values might be restored.

No one doubts that America is in a difficult time, both internally with the economy and externally with the war on terrorisim. I am 55 years old and have been disillusioned with the President and the current democratic challengers. When I initially heard about the draft W. Clark campaign I was sceptical but decided to give you a fair look. I am very impressed with your views and have decided to support your run for the presidency. The only thing missing is your announcement to run. I live in Iowa and used to be an active participant in the Iowa caucuses but have not attended for the past 20 years. If you announce I will not only attend but will be happy to do whatever is necessary for you to win both the Iowa caucuses and the national election. I am in a management position at a major corporation and know good strong leadership when I see it. You are a good leader and I am sure you will be able to obtain the support of the American people. Please announce soon the anticipation is driving me CRAZY!

Dear General Clark: America needs a new presidential candidate; one who is up to the challenges of our uncertain times. Based on my total impressions of your credentials and demonstrated performance in positions of high trust and confidence, I believe you are uniquely qualified to tackle that role. You who can be a voice for common sense and moderation in these dangerous, uncertain times. You, more than any other candidate, clearly have the unquestionable leadership and foreign policy credentials necessary to win in 2004. General Clark, America needs you. Please run for president. Go for it!! Respectfully, Thomas B. Vaughn Colonel, U.S Army, Retired

A General in the Wings

Instability in Iraq, a shaky economy at home, and a yawning deficit, it's a tough time to be president. Even so, no fewer than nine Democrats say they can do the job better than George Bush. Now, a tenth is standing in the wings, the as-yet undeclared General Wesley Clark.
