Actually, invading and maintaining an army of occupation is just about the most costly and stupid alternative open to Bush in ALL of these countries. If you want to find, kill and/or control all the people that hate you, you better hope that there are not hundreds of millions of people who hate you -- or billions. And you better hope the number is going down, not up. We began with a war on terror and ended up with a whole new reason for people to hate us. However people feel about individual Americans. or about America, there is one thing that a remarkable number of the people in the world do agree upon -- they hate US foreign policy under George Bush -- that is not how you win the war on terror.
