UMC reports flat August chip sales

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Foundry chip supplier United Microelectronics Corp. said Tuesday (September 9, 2003) that its sales for the month of August were NT$7,006 million (about US$205 million) down sequentially by 0.07 percent from NT$7,010 recorded for July.

Although August represented the third sequential drop in monthly sales at UMC they were still 9.25 percent ahead of UMC's August 2002 sales.

UMC's year-to-date sales reached NT$53.6 billion (about US$1.57 billion) in August, some 22.25 percent ahead of the same period in 2002.
