Well, yes, X, having someone actively trying to kill you is related to remembering someone trying to kill you.

Hitch was not, however, recommending a low key response with regard to the first event, only the second. (You are not using 'stoicism' correctly here - the stoics believed it taking without fuss misfortune that couldn't be helped, like illness, not blows from enemies)
