By jove Watson, you're writing so clearly that I can now disagree with you and know that we disagree. For instance, you say:

>>"And as to why we are in Iraq, it simply the most cost and security effective way to destroy terrorists."<<

You have to make a distinction between "new" terrorists and "old" terrorists. If Iraq is the light that's attracting all the old terrorist moths, then fine. If Iraq is, however, now the stagnant pool that's breeding a whole new batch of mosquito terrorists, then why did we create the stagnant pool?

There's no simple one liners or one paragraph truisms that can capture the essence of what we've done there and this administration has never addressed that issue. It makes sense to me that what we're doing in Iraq, and what we have done in Iraq, is CREATING more terrorists. Look at the anti-American sentiment expressed in the Arab country polls. Look at the rage in the Arab world. Look at the perception of the Muslim and Arab world concerning our "real" reasons for being there and the "real" number of innocent Iraqi casualties. Look at the number of Iraqi people who have had family members and close friends KILLED by American bombs and bullets. Don't you think that we're making terrorists faster than we can capture or kill them? If we are, then what are we accomplishing by fighting terrorists that we are instrumental in supplying?

If you don't agree, read up on any guerrilla war you want and ask yourself whether, over a matter of months and years, the occupation created less resistance or more? The exceptions to the creation of more resistance can be found only where the occupation utilized inhumanly oppressive force and, even then, the pressure cooker kept heating.

As to your statement that:

>>"The psychological impact of creating Western Civilization in the heart of the Arab world undermines every religious doctrine of the terrorists."<<

Tom, how do you "create" Western Civilization in the heart of the Arab world? There is no tooth fairy, there is no Santa Clause and if you'll look at the history of the Middle east and what's going on there right now, there will not be any "Western Civilization in the Middle East anytime soon.

Take a look at Jordon where a half-American, enlightened ruler that wants to bring his people to democracy, is going slowly and carefully and is having an extremely difficult time of it. People that tell you that is our goal, know better. You should also.

By your reasoning we could go back in to VietNam and fight the Vietnamese terrorist that would result from the occupation, Great Logic Watson.
