Take away the tooth fairy brush and here's what you have in Iraq: * A religious fervor for a theocratic form of government. * A huge potential for internal strife, chaos and lawlessness that may rise to the level of a civil war. * A deep distrust of American motives and management. * A deep resentment of foreign troops who don't speak the language and who carry guns with a finger on the trigger when any Iraqi is present. * A deep despair over the lack of water, sewer, power, personal security, jobs and ability to self govern and self protect. * A deep sorrow for the 10s of thousands of Iraqi men, women and children who have recently died and are dying at the hands of Americans. * A deep fear of an uncertain future that is in the hands of the people of a different culture whose interests and goals may be far different. * A guerrilla movement that is likely to create reactions and overreactions from American soldiers that will strengthen and broaden Iraqi opposition to occupation and lead to further acts of violence against America and Americans. Only those who feel they know "best" what others should do, and what others need, are smug about how we're doing the "right thing" for the Iraqis. I think the recent entreaties by the pentagon asking that the Iraqi people "cooperate" speaks volumes about how the Iraqi people feel about the occupation of their country by "infidels." These are the stagnant ponds that breed terrorists. We created it, we're maintaining it and, even if we can't drain it, we need to stop filling it. PS. Just cause SI Bob said he was letting loose the reins doesn't mean that you should try to make yourself appear smarter by calling me "stupid." Too funny, Watson.
