Re: "Notice Dole's Bush-like anti-UN rhetoric and bravado, "this president means what he says", typical unprofessional swagger totally inappropriate."

Not totally inappropriate at all, indeed the swagger of confidence associated with a firm decision to act in a proactive manner in self-defense is exactly the right attitude for Dole to have.

As Clinton said, "Of course America and Great Britain should take the lead in the short run." As Dole said, "America wants a free Iraq run by Iraqis--the very same people the U.N. didn't think were worth fighting for. Humanitarian aid, okay.

But letting the U.N. dictate Iraq's new government? No way. That would be a costly and lengthy disaster."

Clinton, having offered a sense of agreement, then reverses course and says "...the U.N. should play the big role. It will prove to the skeptics we're not there to control the oil or get big contracts for U.S. companies. It will give credibility to the hunt for chemical and biological weapons. As usual, I agree with Tony Blair and, I hope, with President Bush.

If, I'm to interpret Mr. "what is is" as starkly disagreeing with Dole, then I'll take Dole's side. In the short run, before Iraq is on its own, we ought to be sure they take a good path. Not to do so could be to shirk our responsibility and ignore our reasons for going to Iraq. The UN can participate so long as they want the sort of free Iraq as we deem necessary for our greatest safety.

Dean definitely won the debate (among likely candidates). Actually, if I did not know that he was lying through his teeth, I'd be lulled into voting for him-- that scares me.

I think GWB would be better off if Kerry go the nod.
