Iraq a hotbed of terrorism? Now, yes. But under Saddam? Hardly. We backed Saddam years ago, knowing he was a bastard, precisely because he brutally repressed religious groups with political ambitions. We applauded when he invaded Iran because we wanted him to crush the "Islamic State" -- now Iraq is free to follow Iran, and the Iranians are pouring over the border with guns in hands setting up "militia" to protect their religious leaders in Iraq, and to pave the way for an Islamic State in Iraq.
