Lindy, a very good post. Political analysis in its elements. However a couple of thoughts. The issue of terrorism can begin to come to the front burner when there is another attack on US soil, however minor. At that point, I am not sure if the American people will view that as a failure of George Bush to fight terror. Or, it could be an issue for the entire nation to rally behind and vote Bush in. Hard to say.

Regarding Dean. He is not that liberal. Talking about healthcare, education etc. is not liberalism. He has a track record in Vermont, and he also has a track record of getting businesses into Vermont (business friendly). A Governor who has a better track record that Governor Bush. Should he be the nominee, an area of vulnerability for him would be his philosophy on military. Nobody doubts Kerry on his military buildup philosophy and he could best take Bush on that issue. Kerry, I think, has already done some damage to Bush by raising the "flying onto the deck of a carrier and declaring the Iraq war over" issue.
