With a stock like FLEX, that's true with any broker I know of,
( all stocks are like that )..because of the uptick rule.
However ETFs such as QQQ don't have an uptick rule
and can be shorted on the down tick, so they don't
care about the BOX..In fact they sort of like it
because they make interest off the money in the
short account, and also don't have to pay you interest
on the long side.
----
It's just ETFs I box..( no uptick rule )
and my reason is that if the market moves
down fast sometimes you have to wait for
the broker to approve the short sale..
( He has to see if there are shares available,
and there have been times there were none )
----
Also I can never get short in a half fast market
if I do a short at a Limit price..they are not going
to look for shares and hold them for you on a
( maybe sale ) at some limit price.
To be sure I get shares I always short at
market.
----
Then
With my box I can do a sell at a limit price,
with the long side.
----
Again this is just good on
ETFs..
