You are speaking German and quoting Faust to a woman who just talked about Dr. Seuss?? :) Those stupid old buildings stand for what we are, what we have achieved, and will never be just things to us. But still you use up the stored food, and you plant things, and you go into the city. I think all that takes a certain courage and determination. It certainly did those first days and weeks after 9-11. We live, as you know, near DFW, and for three days, the skies were absolutely, eerily silent. I was driving into Dallas and was just under the flight path of the first AA jet coming in for a landing when they lifted the No Fly. I had to pull over I was weeping so hard. Things ARE just things, but then they are so much more.
