OT >> I didn't realize that Hitachi makes that many. Of course Dell makes a ton of them. It certainly looks like Dell made the right choice in rejecting vertical integration.

1- Hitachi. Japanese companies buy from each other. They are vertically integrated even if the companies have different names. They are like sister divisions of the same giant company (or members of a trust).

2- Dell. The reason US companies are starting to make mobile drives is that now there are US companies as customers.

3- Vertical integration in PC's. It is not possible. no company makes all of the main components. Anyway, Dell does not make any parts. Nor do they design any. Nor do they own any patents on any of the PC technology. They just assemble parts the same way you or I could in the garage.
