I would say that the $525 billion deficit
must be caused primarily by the 84% of the
federal budget that is NOT spent on defense.
Why are you focusing on only 16% of the total
budget as being the primary "cause" of the
deficit?

I would say that the fact that we typically
spent over 50% of the budget on defense
several decades ago (compared to under 20%
today) means that our spending priorities
have become severely distorted.

I would say that taxes are still too high and
that non-defense spending should be drastically
cut to eliminate the deficit.
