i know i am not supposed to litter this thread with FA, but here goes anyway....

mortgage REITs starting to come undone.

the levered mortgage trade (borrow in the repo market; lend long on mortgages; and don't let anybody try to tell you these guys are "duration matched" or anything stupid like that) might be coming undone here. this is the single most crowded trade in the history of mankind, and not everyone is going to make it to the exits. i don't think i need to tell anyone what happens to the housing market if liquidity starts getting pulled away at the margin.

for those technically inclined, i'm pretty sure all of those stocks (or at least most of them) have very nicely blown through some nice 2-3 year uptrends, which i don't think is a good thing. folks might want to take a look at Investors Financial (IFIN) as a derivative play on this.
