I'm seeing in real time, in real life.

Dad loses job. Mom's not working now because of quitting years ago as daycare for two kids costs more than her entire gross salary.

Gotta mortage. Got car payments on two vehicles.

In debt on credit cards; just refinanced mortgage to spend the "extra money."

In one fell swoop, all security is threatened. Health insurance for whole family gone. His reemployment possibllilties in his field of experience, college educated or not, are slim to nil. "Retraining" at the local community college costs even more money, and getting trained into a new field of expertise takes a minimum of two years.

And, what new field is hiring?

State government? Hah!! Tech? Fergit it.

Mom is totally unable to get a job because no good paying jobs exist. And, she's competing with thousands of other applicants of all ages for those so-called "jobs" that are available in the service industry -- where waitresses receive $2.50 an hour base "salary."

When the savings run out and the unemployment ends, these folks will be living on the street.

There's no way around it.
