Applied Materials is down my more than 50%, I know that. I can't come up with cisco actuals anywhere. It LOOKS like 50% to me, based on empty bldgs and things like that, anecdotal evidence.

But you're right that a lot of companies are not promoting their employees but making them manage offshore teams. In fact, many of our consultants are hired on to do this management. Pretty crazy and very hard on the employee or consultant. I think it does cut costs dramatically, but it is hard to manage and keep quality high. I have firsthand experience at that. Anyway, I wonder how long that trend will continue.

My own belief is that we are within 2-3 years of a major job SHORTAGE,

Job shortage? Well that is the optimistic picture.

Ciena is offshoring engineers for optical R&D projects, and they are not unique. This means we have no control over anybody's IP. I think there will be terrible ramifications to all this offshoring, above and beyond what it does to the deficit.
