That's because in the US, the medical/health care/pharmaceutical community is designed to worsen and exacerbate your medical condition in order to get more money from you. Similarly, the legal community is designed to worsen and exacerbate your legal woes in order to get more money from you. I wish I could grin about all of that, but since it's true, I can't. It's really pretty sad.

They run a substantial trade surplus with the U.S. that makes the generous financing of these programs possible since it keeps unemployment lower than in a balanced state of trade. Their demographics with respect to age and immigration trail the US, just as the aging in the US trailed Japan's. Since more than a quarter of their immigrants are coming in as aged, they may catch up faster. All systems are progressively burdened by the higher costs and service seems to be getting cut back in many countries.

Considering 40% of the uninsured in the US are children, it would behoove the government to modify the child-related tax credits to mandate proof of childrens' insurance coverage for those parents receiving the credits. Most states offer subsidized childrens' insurance coverage (which would be the recipient of those funds).
