Unfortunately, the unintended consequences of the bumbling actions of Bush seem to have done far more to promote the long term survival of terrorism than to harm it.

My daughter (in middle school) is doing a survey for a school project, and yesterday asked me if I felt safer, not as safe, or the same today as on Sept 11th 2001. I contemplated protecting her and lying, but ended up answering truthfully: less safe. The Bush administration at times seems to be on a recruiting campaign for Al Qaeda.

Unbending, clumsy, with a pathological adversion to diplomacy, they have succeeded in alienating our allies and enemies alike. We are viewed alternately as belligerent and incompetent, succeeding at waging a sophisticated and cunning war while failing to turn the lights and water on. No wonder the Iraqis think we have some evil plan for them; it is hard for them (and us) to comprehend that the most advanced nation in the world can't turn the lights on...

The incompetence of this administration somewhat dilutes the effects of the force we have applied. The uneven application of force, the unjustified war on Iraq, and the bumbling of the so-called 'planners', has both shown us in a weaker light and diminished the allure of the democracy we are peddling. Sort of like having Mr T as the recruiting manager for your university; not exactly the image you want to project.
