We're going to have to do away with Bush's tax cuts for the rich. That's number one. They just make no sense.

Number two, we really need to stimulate the economy, create jobs through small business incentives and a whole new national clean energy program. Gradually we can move toward balanced budgets again, especially we we once again work with the UN and share costs of global security concerns.

The Bush deficits are so large they cannot be done away with easily. They will be passed on year after year until the economy is finally booming again a la Clinton years and, if taxes are high enough, the government can finally pay them off.

Plus, we will need to find ways to trim spending. One huge savings would be to cut some of the profit-gouging out of health care. Health care costs have been rising 15% a year with zero inflation. Just doesn't make any sense.

As for national defense, Kerry would only cut programs which are not useful to real world needs. That gets very complicated and depends on the program. We need to be very smart about defebnse and never wasteful. I know Kerry does NOT want to build a whole new generation of nukes as Bush does, for instance. And he will not be lobbied into spending for huge weapons systems unless they are absolutely needed. Those are some of the most expensive items in the world.
