Hi Lindy, no, unfortunately I won't be making the rounds in the Balkans again until at least next February. In the next couple of months I'll be going to Turkey, Spain and probably France.

France should be a real kick! I wonder if the tourists are returning?

The Balkans really was inspiring to visit. I can't wait to get back to Croatia and Slovenia. I really liked both those places. The people could not have been nicer and the city of Dubrovnik was beautiful. It's a walled in city, you can walk around. Sort of like the Great Wall of China I would imagine, but a lot smaller. Some of the remnants of war can still be seen there if you look closely, bomb holes, large hotels that look nice on the outside, but have been destroyed internally.

The people seem happy in both these places, business is booming, it feels alive if you know what I mean. Both are a great place to go for vacation if one is traveling in Europe in the summer. Most of the people speak a clear broken English, so getting around and asking for directions is very easy.

Americans are really missing out on some terrific vacation destinations by not visiting Slovenia and Croatia. My views, prior to visiting, were probably shared by a lot of Americans that they were still a bit dangerous to visit. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is a calmness to these places, which blew my mind away when I considered war existed, so close by, and so relatively recent historically.

The exchange rate is also very good. For instance, in Slovenia, a nice hotel, right along the beach and looking out over the Mediterranean Sea in the middle of tourist season, will run you about 40-60 bucks a night. A super deal.

In both these countries, the citizens loved walking along long boulevards by the sea and eating ice cream.

So did I. :)
