Kerry would slash corporate welfare, unnecessary new defense programs like new nukes, put SDI on hold, internationalize the Iraq effort to bring about peace faster, insist we get repaid from Iraqi oil and that it not go to the Bushie oil companies, close down offshore tax havens, take some of the profits out of drugs and health care to slash costs there, fight the energy gouging and regulate energy, get the economy going a la Clinton by bringing high-end taxes back to where they were then and restoring the nation's liquidity, making peace with our trading partners so the global economy hums again, placing an emphasis on the new economy again, putting the unemployed back to work, short term stimuli for consumers if necessary. All that and more would not only cut wasteful spending but ramp up revenues. Then invest those revenues in building the economy of the future.

All this is a very tough job and nothing will be perfect but it will get us back on the right track. Gradually, we can get back to real prosperity again and balanced budgets.
As for raising taxes, Clinton did it and created an economic miracle. Reagan also did it in California. Sometimes it's necessary. One thing we know, we can't have a huge military and cut taxes for the rich at the same time. Someone has to pay for all that global cop stuff.
