I wasn't disputing your answer or those of experts, just trying to learn more. I've seen several answers and messages on boards that say basically never to trust wireless. Having recently gotten on board, I'm looking for pro/con specifics if possible. I often times have a choice of direct hookup to cable or through router. I've seen some posts that say the router makes it safer than the direct hookup to cable and others who say never trust wireless anything.

Maybe there is no good answer but if you follow all the steps, i.e., change network name and password, require MAC registration, do WEP encryption, are you 99% safe? 90% 70%? I would imagine city vs rural is a factor and whether I am Bill Gates or just Joe Sixpack, but assuming I'm no special target, can I minimize the risk down to a a statistically insignificant number?
