Slashing healthcare costs and corporate welfare aren't "nothing". Not all defense spending is a good thing. Some of it is extremely wasteful and does not add to our security not to the troops well-being. Programs like new nukes and SDI are huge boondoggles in the making. There may be others too. I am not an expert. Being smart about defense and sharing the burden with other countries could save us hundreds of billions over the years. The whole unilateral war effort was a big waste.
