I think he's absolutely right about just how meanspirited the Bush people are likely to make the next election.

I of course, see it as the most vicious ever attack by the left on a sitting President. But I hope we don't spend too much time on "Mommy, he started it!"

I can remember when I posted a lot about Chavez. I think it has quieted down, and he has control now. Will it become another Cuba?

Venezuela Rejects Effort to Oust Chávez
By REUTERS

CARACAS, Venezuela, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Venezuela's electoral authority on Friday rejected as invalid an opposition petition requesting a national referendum on the rule of left-wing President Hugo Chavez.

The National Electoral Council cited procedural errors to deny the petition backed by more than 3 million signatures collected in early February and presented on Aug. 20.

The rejection was a setback for opposition hopes to try to vote the populist president out of office this year in the world's No. 5 oil exporter. But opposition leaders have already said they would embark upon a second nationwide drive to collect signatures seeking a referendum. .
