Jlallen, re: >>"'But does it hold up?'

If you even have to ask the question, especially in the light of the aftermath of the US turning tail in Vietnam and the human tragedy of epic proportion which followed, then you will never understand the answer....."<<

Maybe you can explain yourself here? There was a human tragedy of epic proportions in Vietnam WHILE WE WERE THERE and AFTER WE LEFT. We suffered, but nothing like the Vietnamese. It was the men, women and children of that nation that paid the highest price for a decade of brutal war and it's aftermath, and I grant you that the aftermath was truly horrible. But that doesn't prove your point that we shouldn't have left.

What is that would have changed if we'd stayed? Do you have a position here or are you simply choosing to believe that we could do anything we wanted in a country where a majority of the people had united in arms against us?

Jlallen, it's not enough to have strong beliefs if you cannot support them with logical and reasonable opinions. Knee jerk, emotional reactions are what cause gamblers to lose the house after they've lost the car.
