<<We know the final result is less land use. The US proves it. What is happening is the old economic story of labor and capital. Whichever is cheaper will be used.>>

The US proves the opposite. 40 acres and a mule used to be the dream, now it's 4,000 acres and $500k in machinery. In the US if it can be farmed, it is. Fences, hedges, pasture land are gone, looking for that extra acre to plant. It's now happening in South America, remember "save the rain forest"? We're not talking about a limited market like how much can I sell to my village, grow more, make more. Cheaper? A combine in a good bean field can be worth $20,000 per hour and get the crop harvested before it rots. How many people picking would that take?

I do have a different take living in farm land. No pineapples, just corn, beans and hogs.
