I believe that is the candidate that is lesser known that has the greater chance. The last candidate to win on 'coatails' was Bush 41. Bush 43, Clinton, Reagan, and Carter were all 'long shot' candidates (remember when Reagan was deemed too conservative to ever be elected?).

I think that, in this case, familiarity does NOT make the heart grow fonder. I believe that is why Kerry delayed his announcement until now, and why guys like Gephardt can never win. The public has just seen too much of them to get excited.

Clinton stood out in the crowd 10 years ago, but would be an also-ran today. Today's candidate needs to appear to be a steely-eyed leader, even with faults (e.g. Bush). People are shying away from career politicians or those who seem to 'political'. People are sick of the BS politics, and want someone to lead.

Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush 43 were knocked for having domestic experience but no foreign experience. Clark would be knocked for no domestic experience, but I think people want a strong foreign policy leader first (especially with Bush's oafish foreign leadership).

Kerry might make a good VP for Clark, with his domestic experience.
