Our convincing required us to kill millions of them, and I've always agreed that lessons taught in that manner are convincing. But that is not what Bush is offering us.

And with great probability, that's EXACTLY what your laizzez-faire approach to the matter will result in years down the road. The requirement for the west to fully mobilize it's military resources to fight militant Islamo-fascist regimes which will ultimately overthrown the corrupt and ineffective governments currently in existence.

What Bush is "offering us" is the recognition that pre-emptive action MIGHT be able to avert such an outcome, or at least influence and deflect it from becoming a major international threat to global stability.

It's no different than the "what if" scenario of Britain and France standing up to Hitler when he first came to power, or at least when he entered the Rhineland.

Or "what if" Roosevelt had dealt more forcefully with the Imperial Japanese over their invasion of Manchuria.

Both of these events quite possibly would have prevented WWII from ever occurring.
