There is a fine line of regulation to prevent monopoly and destroying creation. Microsoft gets money for every installation of Windows on every PC.

What you are stating is that after 20 years Windows would become public domain and that Microsoft would no longer be entitled to that revenue. Again who would then invest in soft ware companies?
