And what's more, officials say, the system was in fact successful because depleted uranium is harmless and should not have been stopped.

The point of using DU is that unshielded, it puts out a radiation signature similar to shielded enriched (weapons grade) uranium. Therefore, an excellent way to test the system. Since it passed right through, the system was not successful - in direct contradiction to the Faux ones.
