The United States was in a recession the first 3 quarters of 2001, but experienced positive GDP growth for the year. It should also be noted, that greenhouse emissions increased in Euroland for the same period.

First, positive GDP growth was not due to manufacturing production, a major source of pollution. Secondly, the more people unemployed, the less driving that happens and the less exhaust pollutants put into the air. It can make a major difference in the quality of the air. LA experienced much improved air in the early 90s due to a severe recession.

As for the EU, its not the source of pollutants that the US is. If I remember the numbers correctly, the US has 4% of the world's population while generating 25% of the world's pollutants. Any drop in American production of pollutants will have a major impact on the overall air quality for the world.

Anyway, if the Democrats were so keen on greenhouse emissions, they wouldn't be giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens in CA - taking a couple million illegals in CA, off of public transportation, and onto single occupancy vehicles...Oops, that's kind of stretching it :0)

Yeah, I think so.
