If you think Iraq is a "live fire exercise" against terrorists, you don't understand terrorism. These people don't line up to be shot, they are invisible. It's our troops who are lined up, ptrolling the streets and garrisoned. We have no way of taking out any terrorists in Iraq unless we're fortunate enough to get accurate real-time human intelligence, something we have not been able to get very much of over the years.

Bottomline, we don't have many friends in Iraq. Even those who are glad Saddam is gone, want us gone too ASAP.

The Bushie notion that we have created a battlefield in Iraq to fight terrorists is one of the stupidest arguments I have ever heard. You'd think terrorists are dressing up in red uniforms and giving themselves away. On the contrary, it is almost impossible for our troops to tell friend from foe over there, and usually we go after them only after they have struck, by which time they have usually melted into the Iraq population.

Iraq is a costly ineffective quagmire due to poor planning and ignorance. And it's not going to get much better any time soon. Seems some have never learned the lessons of Vietnam, Beirut and Mogadishu. You can't fight terrorism or guerillas in their element with tanks and aircraft. And counter-terrorism is all about CIA and law enforcement intel not military tactics. A few military SF units are qualified to hunt down terrorists, but most are more like sitting ducks over there.
