OT and Namaste,

Be patient with the good doctor. He's not perfect, but he may be about as close as they come for an American. At least he offends all cultures equally. <g>

Don't knock the degree from Google University. That is where I got my own PhD. But as you know, the virtual world does have certain limitations as well and your suggestion to him to visit India was spot on. This winter would not be a bad time for him to trade Anchorage for Agra, Amritsar or Ajmer.

I do have a recommendation for anyone who goes to India for the first time to try to go overland if they have the time. It puts the country into very nice perspective and gives the traveler a smoother transition into a place that must be a bit overwhelming to someone who steps on a plane in NY or LA and steps off in Mumbai or Delhi. I did this 33 years ago when I was 17 and it was the most memorable journey of my life. When I finally arrived at Ferozepur after making my way through Europe, turkey, iran, then Herat, Kabul, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Lahore, I thought I had entered paradise. I stayed the three months my tourist visa allowed and extended it another three months and still had barely scratched the surface of your great country. I subsequently returned for two more three-month visits. And hope to go again with my family as soon as the little one is two or three.

Sam
