Today, the accumulated federal debt as a percentage
of GDP is roughly 65%.

That is still a reasonable level by historical standards.

The all-time high for federal debt as a percentage
of GDP was at the end of WW2. At that time, it was
120% of GDP (almost double what is it now, in relation
to the size of the economy).

However, if entitlement programs continue to grow
unchecked, then indeed we will exceed the all-time
high of 120% in the future.
