SS is basically an unfunded income transfer program. It is very badly designed and is likely not to be financially sound as it will require MUCH higher taxes to support it in the future unless benefits are cut. This is indeed a mess and you are probably right that you will never see a dime of it. The finances of the government are indeed messed up, but don't you think the unlimited ability of the feds to borrow is as much of a problem as taxation itself? If you cut taxes and then just borrow the money instead you just dig a deeper hole to fill later. Should borrowing not be considered as much a problem as taxation itself?
