Joan, the cost of extraction of the main oil supply in the world is between $3 to $15 with an average which I think is around $10. True some oil wells in Russia permafrost may stop to be profitable, as possible other places.

If crude oil will have the same mark up as all other commodities the price I mentioned makes sense.

At present prices tar sand and oil shells can be economically exploited which only indicates that the price of crude is to high.

Concomitant I think it a national effort I exploiting Methane Hydrates should be enabled, this resource can supply a substantial part of our energy for electrical needs

Now to avoid abuse of resources I think that placing heavy taxation on gasoline similar to Europe will diminish excesses from consumers.

Only industrial use airlines and mass transportation should be exempt from tax.

This will go a long way to lower pollution, lower cost of maintaining highways and render many mass transit projects profitable. For example Amtrak could flourish again and high speed trains will make economic sense between metropolitan areas.

For that to happen we need a administration which is not controlled by the oil and coal mafia
