Mindmeld, I don't know what you are using your offshore resources for, but imho 40-50K/year is WAY TOO MUCH for an offshore resource. You have the issues with proximity to customers (you) for one thing, in my business that is an issue. Plus the total lack of perspective that needs to be spelled out in functional documents which are unnecessary in a US based team.

When I said 5K/year I meant that is what Satyam pays these people who we contract with. The point being, if Satyam is providing outsourced back office services for some American company, how much are they willing to pay for a US "seat license" for some expensive software, considering the cost of staff to them is $5K/year?

My stuff is fixed bid now but I think we pay about 20-25K/year per person to Satyam. Just a rough guess though. Much less than what you are paying, I am lumping all the operations people (who I also have to manage) in the mix though, maybe those folks are less.
