Yes you are right. My coworker told me the Satyam people I have were paid 5K, but he also said they make 20% on average of the pay here, so those are two conflicting opinions.

The development people I have here are 85-90K, so at 20% that would be somewhere under 20K, we pay about 30K/yr for these people if you annualize it, but it is a fixed bid so hard to know.

Then I have another group which are operations and those are lower salaried folks, maybe 60K here, but even then 20% would be 12K. Here is where it gets tricky though, because we pay 18K for these from Satyam, I was just working this through last week. Operations is a 24x7 task, but the hitch is the resource is on call only. No real day to day effort. So by american standards, paying even 60K for a 24x7 staff is probably minimum wage or something, it would take 3 people minimum to provide this function. With Satyam, we pay 18K total, as a fixed bid. How do they do it? Pooling jobs I suspect, with other Satyam customers. But I don't know. Of course in the US, my company would never allow a worker access to our data AND some other companies data. Out of sight out of mind.

I still think you pay too much though.

Is it really worth it to you, to pay offshore resources half of what they could make here? If this were the case for me, I would run to the CIO immediately and get the project moved back in house. We have lost countless people hours on miscommunications, time differences etc. with India.
