I see the scenarios you paint, Jacob, but all our scenarios ignore the role of the oil. We know everyone will be reluctant to give up control of it. But, for the life, of me I can't picture fairly concrete ways that plays in. No doubt, the US is using some of that to entice the Russians and others to vote their way in the UNSC but I don't see even a positive vote, whatever the French do, as saving their bacon on this one.

Only a complete UN mandate will let them pretend they can declare victory and leave. And they don't yet seem desparate enough to do that.
