Don,

You don't have the analogy correct. Assume you are the shareholder and I am the management of the company.

Me issuing stock is not equivalent to me issuing a check on my account. It is equivalent to me using the Power of Attorney that you have granted me and writing a check on your account!

Of course, these are special checks where the amount on the face is a formula that depends on the number of checks outstanding at the time the check is presented to be cancelled... but in the end the effect is the same. Every time I write one of these "free" checks, your wealth is diminished.

How generous of you to allow me to write them indiscriminately to my friends and family.
