HALABJA, Iraq - Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) visited a mass grave Monday to highlight perhaps the single biggest human-rights abuse of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s brutal regime — the chemical weapons murder of some 5,000 people in March 1988.

US is killing 1,000 Iraqis a week. We'll be caught up in no time at all.

Oil cannot pay for US occupation. The US military is an army of occupation -- on that score there is no dispute, unless you care to dispute it, but there are really no grounds for dispute. The US cannot use a penny of oil money to pay for the hundreds of billions it will cost to maintain an army of occupation. Of the nest $87 billion, only $15 billion can be recovered some day from oil sales -- the rest is occupation expenses. Almost none of the $60 billion spent so far can ever be recovered.
