Any thoughts?

Just one observation: the former Deutsche Mark banknotes carried portraits of famous Germans: Bettina von Arnim (writer), Carl Friedrich Gauß (physicist), Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (writer), Balthasar Neumann (architect), Clara Schumann (pianist), Paul Ehrlich (physician), Maria Sibylla Merian (painter) and the brothers Grimm (fairy tales). On the back of each banknote there was an object related to the illustrated person.

These banknotes were substituted by the euro. They are illustrated with imaginary objects, there's no reference to national identity or history any more.

I wonder if there is mechanism for withdrawing?

Unless the evolvement of the political structures of Europe catches up with the premature joint currency introduction the euro will just fall apart one day.
