Of course, an attack that caused Israel to attack arafat could be perceived by Hamas as a positive thing

Internally, they would like to become the leaders, and that would help them. Externally, they are seen as a bunch of rag-head terrorists, with no recognizable world leader. Israel really seems to have great info on Hamas. They must have a traitor high up who feeds them locations of the leaders. They keep killing them.
