From what I know BP is UK based company. There are plenty of US oil and oil exploration companies who would like to keep things as is.

BTW I also had some projects to generate back into the grid electricity about 25 years ago ..... then the price of oil fell to around $15 and the tax incentives were removed. I think it was during Reagan & Bush Sr. administration all sold to the oil lobby.

I also worked on stainless steel oxidized sun collectors for water heating with efficiency of close to 90% in glass encasing. This project was also killed due to low oil prices

Was interested to develop small close cycle turbines of few KW to be powered by those panels in every ones back yard and convert to the grid by via small solid state inverters. If no hot water was used. Temperatures were rising in excess of 200 degrees C on a sunny day, so it would had been feasible

In retrospect to abandon the whole drive of home made electricity was a very big mistake.
