So just which Republican President between LBJ and Carter installed the Shah? Eisenhower and the CIA. in 1953. It was about the oil. Gee, I thought that the liberal party line was that the Reagan administration bought their freedom with weapons through Iran-Contra. And the general conservative spin is?.... Oh! You FORGOT! That was AFTER Jimmy had said he would never use force to rescue the hostages! Remember that? Everyone knew that Jimmy was a Dove. But at the same time he calculated that the hostages would likely be killed in an all out attack, and he tried to free the hostages in a dramatic rescue operation that unfortunately failed. He decided to continue with diplomacy. To many this was an error. But to many it was a show of constraint. Ultimately his policy was correct as the hostages were freed with out a shot. Orca
